Bringing people together to build the post scarcity society we want
FOME — The Fear of Missing Everything
This is the website for a book that hasn’t been published yet, and for a movement that hasn’t properly begun.
I am a working family doctor in the UK. Every day I sit in a small consulting room and watch what scarcity does to real human bodies and real human lives. From that same room I have also come to see something else: the extraordinary possibility that, within the lifetimes of people alive today, we could build a post-scarcity society in which every human being has the material conditions for a flourishing life. The technologies are converging. The cost curves are falling. The hinge of history is swinging open.
The website exists to support the forthcoming book, but it is here for something larger still: to bring people together, spark honest conversations, and become the gateway to a genuine movement. A movement that helps humanity reach the abundant future we want and deserve — while doing everything in our power to make sure things do not go hideously awry along the way.
Yes, there is a certain grandiosity to that ambition, and it is not lost on me. But this is a big thing we are trying to do. Maybe the biggest.
Through the lens of a doctor who has spent decades watching suffering that need not continue, I offer a civilisational prescription. I cannot write the final version alone. I need every one of you — your insights, your caution, your hope, your experience — to help us reach the right one.
Welcome. The conversation starts here.
